Adam B. Elfant, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Therapeutic Endoscopy at Cooper University Hospital, University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Camden, New Jersey.  He is also Associate Head of the Division of Gastroenterology at Cooper University Hospital.  His research interests include therapeutic endoscopy and outcome studies for endoscopic procedures; and the pharmacology, treatment, and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Dr. Elfant received his medical degree from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  An internship and residency in internal medicine ensued, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at Cooper University Hospital and a fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic oncology at Wellesley Hospital of the University of Toronto.

Dr. Elfant is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).  He holds memberships in a number of professional societies, including the ACG, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association.  Dr. Elfant has been named a “Top Doctor” by both Philadelphia Magazine and New Jersey Magazine, from 1999 to 2006.

He sits on numerous committees at Cooper University Hospital, including the Endoscopy Unit/Quality Assurance Committee, the Residency Selection Committee in Internal Medicine, and the Quality Assurance Committee of the Department of Medicine.  In addition, he is President of the Philadelphia GI Research Group.

Dr. Elfant is a widely respected speaker, delivering lectures at regional and national professional conferences and at grand rounds on a variety of gastrointestinal topics.  He has served as either the principal or co-principal investigator of numerous clinical trials and has authored more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed medical literature.
